Upset Picks

Michigan St. over Michigan - If I keep picking Michigan St., they're bound to win one. Aren't they?

Stanford over UCLA - I like Stanford to knock off the Bruins at home. The Cardinal may be one of the more balanced teams in the nation right now.

Washington over Notre Dame - The Willingham Bowl goes to the Huskies this year. Notre Dame hasn't faced a QB like Jake Locker yet.

Tennessee over Auburn - This game means a lot to both teams. I think whoever loses this may start to head South and even miss a bowl game. The game is in Knoxville so the edge goes to the Creamsicle Crusaders.

Which Side Are You On?

There are two types of people in this world, Beatles people and Elvis people. - Mia, Pulp Fiction 1994.

Good 'ol Coke snortin' Mia was up to something when she uttered those words to a bloated John Travolta in one of the greatest movies ever made. 15 years later, this quote needs to be ammended somewhat. You see, nowadays there are still only two kinds of people in the world: Those who like and respect Tebow, and douchebags.

With Tebow's recent injury, the divide has become clearer than ever between the two camps. I have always known of the strong anti-Tebow movement in the country today. I have always been kind enough to respectfully disagree with their position on the matter and move on in the past. However, these people have become ever more vocal after Tebow's injury which is what makes their group known collectively as the douchebags.

These baggers are quick to point out that Tebow is a product of a system, is a mediocre QB, only scores from the 1 yard line, is surrounded by NFL talent at every position, has an uncanny relationship with Coach Urb, is shoved down our throats by the media conglomerate. As I said, in the past I just shrugged these comments off. Now, I guess you can call me kind of jaded. I'm a little fed up with these morons. They always seem to forget the actual stats and performances that point to Tebow's greatness.

I decided to search around the internet and gather the comment I could find both good and bad from all of Florida's rival fan bases in response to Tebow's injury. There are representatives from Tennessee, LSU, Georgia, Ohio St., Florida St. and many more.

For your convenience, I've separated them into two groups. Also, I decided not to post the thousands of redundant posts by the douchebag contingent that went along the lines of, "The Gaytors suck! Teblow got what he deserved! Gayturds are going down! Urban Crier sucks Teblow's cock!." There was a surprising amount of these posts.....

The Good

Gator fans, I feel for you. I'm not a big fan of any team from Florida but this kid is an absolute class act. Hope he gets well soon. - zorich88 espn.com (Notre Dame fan)

Why is everyone bashing Tebow on here? he has done more for college football than (Pat) White and (Vince) Young combined...he plays with more heart than anyone out there...he doesn't trash talk before the game...even though he's the only one that has really earned the rite as a player...no one in the game has done what he has both professionally and domestically...hes a good guy. - keenan1990 espn.com (allegiance unknown)

Im a Bama fan but I will say that Tebow has class (more players in NCAA should have such class). I hope that he recovers quickly
. - CapnB SI.com

As much as I dislike him as the Gator QB, I think he's a fine young man with good Christian values. - Cooleyvol volnation.com

When I saw him laying there, obviously knocked out cold, I was extremely concerned for Tebow. I know everyone outside of Gator Nation gets sick and tired of hearing about "superman", there is NOWAY that any of us (at least the REAL college football fans) wish him any kind of injury. Tebow is a great human being and one of the best college players of all time
. - BuckeyeVols volnation.com

Gator fans, here's to a quick recovery to one of the most passionate and best leaders to ever play the game of football. As a note, I have come to admire and at the same time despise Timmy. You admire his leadership qualities and determination, but at the same time want to see him lose if hes not on your team...Some of you need to do a little soul searching if you are wishing death or injury because of a football game. - Nole55 rivals.com

I don't know why, but I have the tendency to not like very many really good players form other teams. However, Tebow is a guy that almost makes you like him with his style of play, attitude, and the way he acts off the field as well.
- tiger_rag rivals.vom

I'm no Tebow fan, but how can ANYONE hate him? I repset him, greatly, and I wish him a swift recovery
. - Seven Heismans rivals.com (USC fan)

...As a side note, even with the ineptitude our team displayed I did take some satisfaction in knowing that I witnessed seeing arguably the best college football player in a long, long time. - Sam K wildcatnation.com

...NOTHING about sports should have fans so whipped up into hatred for the other team that they want a guy seriously injured...especially a class act like Tim Tebow. We need more not fewer Tim Tebows in this world
. - Dr. H Lecter wildcatnation.com

Now time for the douchebags. You're warned before you read this can get vulgar and pretty idiotic....

He will go down as the most overrated qb in college football history. If hes the greatest qb ever then why won't he be the 1st player drafted in april? Because he's not a qb, he's a system player.
- lazarre11 espn.com (village idiot)

This isn't 1950!!! He's not Ghandi!!! This is 2009 and in these days there will never, and i mean NEVER have one person go to other countries and make a "change" or "difference". If Tebow wants to do something good, do it in this country, not in some third world country where no one gives a flying fuuuuck about the USA! Tebow=loser! - jsanders78 espn.com (avid isolationist)

i pray he's gone for the season
- ga82 SI.com (The smartest Georgia fan in the world)

Thats what having a Douche bag of a coach will get ya...can't believe Timmy t went down...thought he was superman! - bigorange#1 volnation.com (Secret identity of Lane Kiffin)

This just adds to the drama! Of course he was already sick, right? Someone change his feminine hygiene product in the ambulance and move on...
- DawgnLA dawgs.com (funniest man alive)

I'm glad Tebow wasnt paralyzed or severly hurt. I do, however, hope he plays again, and here is why. I am not sold on his abilities at quarterback. He has the best supporting cast in college football. Who knows how many athletes could step in his spot and achieve similar results. For sure, the director of propaganda at UF deseves a pat on the back....Besides, he wears jean shorts!
BubmcUGA dawgs.com (World-renowned Fashionista)

A sensible Tebow thread is still a Tebow thread Love him or Hate him ESPN will hype someone else you will be forced to move on. I am so glad ESPN has chosen Barkley to be the next Tebow hoever deserving/undeserving he maybe so that the Gators can get a taste of what the rest of the country is going thru for the next 3 years.
- Trojanlaker rivals.com (Stuck in 2002)

I cheered when he got hit. I cheered when he went down. I high fived numerous people when he didn't get up. And I'm still cheering on the inside today. I'm sick and tired of St. Tebow...You are darn right I cheered. I'd do it again, and again, and again, if I had the chance.
-Copland wildcatnation.com (Karma's next victim)

Gay as frick and not his kid. Tebow is $$$$$ in Urban's eyes. it was more like a broker watching his stock dro. fricking douche gator fags
. - jfortenberrylsu tigerdroppings.com (LSU intellectual)

You Gaytor fans are delusional. Wait till next year when Tebow is gone.
RedShirt tigerdrtopings.com (displaced Buffalo Bills fan)

Tebow should go back to playing with kids weiners as a missonary because he's a pansie
-
Jon Logan
facebook.com (Jealous that he's not circumcized)

boo fucking hoo tebow is hurt big deal I wish the fag was crippled so everyone would snap outta their little fantasy of him being just the "greatest person in the world" fuck him and hope he gets fucked up in the NFL....GO FSU
- Bret Yelvington facebook.com (Upset his team can't beat USF)

tebow isnt the greatest player of all time. oh and 4 all the UF fans on here, you dont win chamionships, in fact u dont even have a history before spurrios. ur not even the best in fla. u have 3. miami has 5. in fact you rank 21st for championships, congrats on your 4 years of success. keep drinking your tebow kool-aid. you guys suck.
- Adam Indermuehle facebook.com (The bestest math man in the world! Congrats Adam)

For what it's worth, there were more good comments on the message boards than bad ones. Except for Georgia forums. Dawg fans were overwhelmingly on the douche side. LSU fans were probably the next worse. Kentucky, and surprisingly, Tennessee fans were probably the most respectful.

Too Close For Comfort

Saturday came and went. All the hooplah and hype surrounding the Tennessee-Florida match-up built everyone up for what turned out to be a good, hard-fought, poorly reffed game.

Lane Kiffin didn't get a chance to sing Rocky Top after the loss, but he does leave Gainesville able to hold his head up high. The Gators fumbled and stumbled their way to a 23-13 victory. While a win is a win, this one left a lot to be desired. I don't care what Coach Urb says.

Tim Tebow had one of his worst games in the Orange and Blue. For the first time since he was 12, Tebow did not throw a touchdown pass. Not only does that look bad, but it totally screwed my fantasy football team. He also fumbled while the Gators were driving in for a deciding touchdown. All that aside, Timmy did make some great plays. He bulldozed over all-everything Eric Berry. He made a spectacular game saving run on a third and long. Even on the aforementioned fumble, Tebow was in the midst of a terrific run.

The refereeing in this game was horrendous. It's nice to see how close Gator games will be reffed throughout the rest of the season. On Tennessee's only touchdown drive Jaye Howard was called for a celebration penalty after going with the Duante Culpepper hand rolling celebration after stopping a reverse. On the Gators' ensuing drive, Tennessee's defensive end Chris Walker celebrated in a similar manner after sacking Tim Tebow. No flag. I don't think Howard should have been flagged in the first place, but since he was, how about a little consistency? Speaking of consistency. Jonathan Crompton was not penalized late in the game for an intentional grounding when he launched the ball about 60 rows deep in the stands to avoid a sack. Crompton was not out of the tackle box and therefore should have been flagged.

All in all, the game was a little surprising. Just look at my prediction from last week to see what I thought of the game. Tennessee's offensive line pushed the Gators' d-line around all game long, And the Vols' secondary shut down the Gator receivers pretty regularly.

The stats:

Passing

Tim Tebow - 14-19 115 yds 1 int

Rushing

Tim Tebow 24 rush 76 yds 1 td
Chris Rainey 9 rush 64 yds
Emmanuel Moody 3 rush 33 yds
Jeff Demps 4 rush 31 yds 1 td

Receiving

Aaron Hernandez 4 recs 26 yds
Riley Cooper 3 recs 25 yds
Brandon James 3 recs 23 yds
Field Goals

Caleb Sturgis 3/3 Long 37 yds
Interceptions

Joe Haden 1 int
Ahmad Black 1 int
Tackles

Ryan Stamper 12 tckls
Ahmad Black 11 tckls
Joe Haden 8 tckls
Will Hill 5 tckls
Brandon Spikes 4 tckls

Sacks

Ryan Stamper 1 sack

Player of the Game
Ahmad Black - Mighty Mouse

Black secured the interception on Tennessee's last drive of the game. The pick finally sealed the victory for the Gators. Also, Black manged to get double digit tackles thanks to the not so great play of the d-line. Ahmad was solid in helping stop the run as the 8th man in the box. That role may have helped in Black's inflated tackle stats as well.

Week 3 Preview

The college football season is finally starting to get it's legs under itself. For the most part, the cup cake challengers are long gone off of the heavyweight's schedules. Now it's time to get down to the business. There are several teams that will be opening up conference play this week, as well as several teams that are finally going to face somewhat of a challenge.

Here's what you need to know, as deemed by me, for week 3.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

5 Games to Watch

1. Florida v. Tennessee - Of course this game is going to make the list. The Gators are finally going to face a team that will be somewhat competitive for at least two quarters. Maybe. We all know about the hype leading up to this game and I've already gone into great detail what I think about it.

2. Virginia Tech v. Nebraska - This is probably the best game that has not been talked about all year long. Both of these teams are solid defensively as well as great rushing teams. Roy Helu of Nebraska and Va Tech's Ryan Williams could be the deciding factors for this game. Also, look for special teams to play a major role.

3. Washington v. USC - This game looks like a blowout no matter which way you study it from. I am a sucker for new coaches facing their old teams though. That's what you have with this match-up. Steve Sarkisian's Husky squad is coming off it's first win since 1975. They will be all kinds of motivated to put up a fight against the Trojans. They still lose, and possibly lose big. But I'll enjoy watching it.

4. Oregon v. Utah - This is Oregon's chance to redeem itself. They already failed miserably in trying to take down a top-tier Non-BCS team this season. We all remember the LeGarrette Blount Bowl in Week 1. Now the Ducks get a shot at the Utes. I actually like the Ducks' chances in this one. They are playing at home, and Utah no longer has Brian Johnson taking snaps.

5. BYU v. Florida St. - The Noles will be fighting to earn some respect back in this game. After barely losing to Miami, Bobby Bowden's bunch went out and almost lost to the Gamecocks at home last week. That's not the South Carolina Gamecocks. That's the vaunted Jacksonville St. Gamecocks. The very same team led by the legendary Ryan Perriloux. BYU will be looking to continue their BCS season. Knocking off Oklahoma and Florida St in the same season will look really good in the school's media guide for years to come.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

5 Players to Watch

1. Tim Tebow QB Florida - Tebow is coming into the game vs. the Vols extremely pissed off. You don't wanna make Timmy angry. He could be in for a huge day.

2. Darryl Clark QB Penn St. - Clark is another QB that could be in for a huge day. The Nittany Lions are hosting Temple.

3. Freddie Barnes WR Bowling Green - Barnes is among the nation's leader in nearly every receiving statistical category. This week the Falcons will be taking on Marshall. A team that is not well known for it's pass defense.

4. Damion Fletcher RB Southern Miss - The Eagles are hosting Virginia this week. The Cavs are one of the worst teams in the nation. They can't do anything right, much less contain a top-flight RB.

5. Dan LeFevour QB Central Michigan - Last week LeFevour led a come from behind victory vs. Michigan St. This week: Alcorn St. I think he'll do just fine.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Heisman Race

1. Tim Tebow Florida QB
2. Colt McCoy Texas QB
3. Max Hall BYU QB
4. Joe McKnight USC RB
5. Jahvid Best California RB

Florida-Tennessee Preview

Well it's fast approaching. The Florida v. Tennessee game is almost upon us. As we all know this particular issue of the rivalry is a poignant one. The Good Guys v. The Bad Guys. The Kiffins v. Meyer. Rocky Top v. The Orange and Blue. The Creamsicle Crusaders v. Brandon Spikes, etc. etc.

All the stories, plot lines and sub plot lines are enough to fill a decades worth of rivalry games. We get it all this Saturday. The Swamp will be crazy and Urb will be ready to exact his revenge and shut Laney up.

3:30 on Saturday can't get here soon enough....

5 Keys to the Game

1. Control emotions - There is so much hype surrounding this game. The Gators have to realize that it's all just hype. Sure they can use some of Lane Kiffin's words for motivation. I know I'm more pumped up for this game than I have been for a Tennessee game since the days of the 'Ol Ball Coach. But it's ok if I let my emotions get the best of me, I don't have a game plan to follow. Plus, I'll more than likely be drunk at game time.

2. Protect the ball - This is pretty much a key in any game. However, it should be emphasized more for this particular contest. In the Gators' only lost last season, they turned the ball over more than all of their other games combined. Hopefully they got all of their fumbles out of the way v. Troy last week.

3. Block out Rocky Top - It's just a god-awful song. If the Gator players accidentally subject themselves to the torturous ear raping that is Rocky Top, they may implode.

4. Avoid penalties - The last thing we need is to allow Tennessee to hang around longer than they should because of penalties. Even the greatest of talent, a.k.a. Florida Gators, can be cancelled out by drive-stalling penalties. Again, hopefully we got most of our penalties out of the way vs. Troy last week.

5. Don't listen to the hype - It's dangerous. Especially in a rivalry game.

5 Players That Need to Step Up

1. Brandon Spikes - Mr. Spikes needs to be ready to inflict as much punishment as possible on Saturday. I have to say B. Spikes hasn't looked like his normal self these past two games. Then again, it is kind of hard to get geared up for Charleston Southern and Troy. He should have no such problems vs. Tennessee.

2. Janoris Jenkins - The only unit on Tennessee's offense that is athletic enough to halfway compete with the Gators D are the wide receivers. Joe Haden will be solid as usual and should get another hard hit on Jonathan Crompton. I'm looking for Jenkins to step up and shut down one of those talented receivers. I'm looking at you Nu'Keese.

3. Brandon James - Brandon James has had his biggest games against Tennessee. For some reason they have never learned to kick away from him. Hopefully the new regime didn't get the memo either.

4. David Nelson - Riley Cooper has had 2 outstanding games. Deonte Thompson hasn't been all that impressive, but he managed to stop dropping balls long enough to catch 2 td passes. Even Justin Williams, Omarius Hines and Cade Holliday have looked good. The only receiver that hasn't produced has been David Nelson. Time for him to contribute.

5. Tim Tebow - Senior season. The most hyped Florida-Tennessee game ever. Keeping national title hopes alive. The Heisman. All are reason why it would be nice if Mr. Tebow went off for a monster game. Hopefully Timmy could even pull a Cam Newton on Eric Berry.

Here's some highlights from last season Gator victory.

Here's what those slack jawed yokels are saying.
My Prediction

Florida - 52

Tennessee - 7

What Tennessee Has Going for Them

Contrary to popular belief there are a few things that the University of Tennessee football team has going for it. No it’s not creamsicle-colored pajamas. And no it’s not the fact that there are countless more donuts available in Knoxville now that Phil Fulmer is gone. There are truly football related things that are moving in the right direction for the Vols.

This does not mean they are working in their favor against the Gators on Saturday, but they are moving in the right direction nonetheless.

First off is Monte Kiffin. Yeah his son is a douche, and yes he somehow managed to raise one of the dumbest men in the world. However, there is no doubting the fact that Good ‘Ol Monte can coach. The elder Kiffin is a defensive genius. His schemes befuddled NFL coaches for nearly two decades. Now he’s attempting to do the same at the college level. There’s only one problem facing Monte at Tennessee. His schemes require a load of talent at nearly every position on the defensive side of the ball. While Tennessee has some talented defensive players, they don’t have show stoppers at every position. If Kiffin can keep his Vols’ defense competitive against the Gators on Saturday he would be showing just how great of a coach he is and that he may just deserve to be getting paid more than a lot of head coaches across the college football landscape today.

Another thing that Tennessee has working for them heading into Saturday is Eric Berry. This guy is a beast. He is, in my opinion, the best safety in all of college football. I know there are some Taylor Mays fans out there that would disagree with that statement but they are wrong. I actually had a friend of mine tell me that Ahmad Black and Major Wright are both better safeties than Berry. After punching him in the face, I helped him off the pavement and explained to him why Mr. Berry is in fact better. Trust me, I love Black and Eraser 2.0, but there is no way that they should even be mentioned in the same breath as Eric Berry.

The final thing that Tennessee has going for them is the extreme underdog role. In the whole history of this rivalry, there has never been a team that faced this much of an underdog status. No one, not even people in Knoxville, are clamoring for a UT victory. Normally this would help the underdog. However, thanks to Lane Kiffin opening his mouth, that won’t be the case this time. Kiffin’s off-season comments about Urban Meyer and the Florida program are feeding plenty of fuel to the fire for Saturday.

Even though all 3 of these things are pluses for Tennessee, it will not save them on Saturday. Monte Kiffin will grow increasingly senile as Tim Tebow and the Gators offense continuously rack up points, finally shutting up Rocky Top for longer than 10 seconds. Eric Berry will simultaneously have his ankles shattered by Chris Rainey while being viscously ravaged by a Riley Cooper block. I’ve already stated why the underdog status won’t help.

All in all, I can’t wait for Saturday. Look for my game preview to be posted by the next day.

Urban's Free Pass

I look forward to singing Rocky Top all night long after we beat Florida in the Swamp next year....

- Lane Kiffin

I submit the above statement as Exhibit A. Those words were famously uttered by Tennessee head coach Lane Kiffin during his introductory press conference. These are also the same words that are purportedly taped to every locker in the Gators locker room. It was also a sign of the pure, unadulterated idiocy to come from Knoxville.

I submit the following video as Exhibit B.

These words were infamously uttered by Bozo, errr Lane at a Tennessee Booster gathering. As we all know, Kiffin didn't exactly study his recruiting rules guide. If he had, perhaps he would have known that what he was accusing Meyer of was in fact perfectly legal. To make matters worse, while Kiffin was busy calling Meyer a cheater, he himself was committing about 273394 recruiting violations.

Exhibit A and Exhibit B both are being used here as evidence. This is probably the first time in a long while that one coach in a seemingly superior position has the capability of running up the score without the traditional media and fan backlash that follows.

Everyone in the world knows what Urban Meyer wants to do to Lane Kiffin's Vols. I don't think Meyer will be satisfied if his bunch doesn't beat the Creamsicle Crusaders by a half hundo. The funny part is, everyone in the world knows that Urban Meyer is completely justifiable.

Even last year against Georgia, when Urban seemed to have every right to want to exact revenge against Mark Richt for the "celebration" of the previous year, he still caught some heat for calling two late timeouts with Florida ahead big. Meyer had to try to defend his actions by stating that he was simply trying to get Manny Moody some more carries.

Ask these unfortunate few what Meyer's wrath looks like.

This game is different. Meyer will have no need to defend his actions after keeping Tebow in a 70 point blowout only to allow him to run through the Vols' fourth string linebacker for his 6th td of the day. After the game Meyer can look right into the collective media's eyes and say, I made that douche in the creamsicle jumpsuit shut his mouth. I expect the media to start the slowest of slow caps at this remark by Meyer and he will be exalted by all.

I just don't know if people realize how special of an opportunity this is for Urb. He has a free pass to do whatever he wants! He could walk over to Lane Kiffin and piss on his forehead while flicking off Ed Orgeron and mouthing a big "FUCK YOU!" to good 'ol Monte.

Not even Randy Shannon would cry if Meyer put up numbers against Tennessee that would make S.O.S. blush. As a matter of fact, I think Meyer should issue a directive to the student body to bumrush the Tennessee band when they start to play Rocky Top for the first of 9,000 times. As all of this is happening the camera should pan in to Urb's grill for a close-up to catch him saying "I hate that god damn song" into the headset.

I hope Urban takes full advantage of this once in a lifetime moment. For a man that once used a rival's logo as urinal cakes, who knows where Kiffin's mug is plastered at right now.

Coaching Carousel

With most of the 20 open head coaching positions filled in college football, I decided now would be a good time to review some of the changes. Of course, there's still some schools out there that could be added to this list. I'll try to update this list as more new coaches are hired.

1. Army

  • Out - Stan Brock
  • In - ?
Army has begun a national search for their next head coach. I think Brock did about as good as possible at West Point. I'm not so sure the next coach here will have any more success.

2. Auburn

  • Out- Tommy Tuberville
  • In - Gene Chizik
I have no idea what Auburn is doing here. They whiffed one one former defensive coordinator, so they panicked and went after the crappier one.

3. Ball St.

  • Out - Brady Hoke
  • In - ?
The Cardinals lose Hoke to San Diego St. As Hoke enjoys the much nicer weather, Ball St. will begin the search for a new coach who will face impossible expectations in Muncie. I look for BSU to tap the 1-aa ranks for this position.

4. Bowling Green

  • Out - Gregg Brandon
  • In - Dave Clawson
I really think Bowling Green jumped the gun when they let Brandon go. Fortunately for mes, Brandon is a top choice to replace Dan Mullen as Florida's offensive coordinator. Clawson backs his way into this job after helping to get Phil Fulmer fired at Tennessee.

5. Clemson

  • Out - Tommy Bowden
  • In - Dabo Swinney
The Tigers have already improved tremendously under Swinney. Their second half performance this season earned Swinney the job. We'll see how well he recruits and coaches for an entire season.

6. Eastern Michigan

  • Out - Jeff Genyk
  • In - ?
Wouldn't this be a good spot for Ty Willingham? I know he went winless last season, but if Chizik can get a job in the SEC, Willingham should be able to get a job anywhere.

7. Iowa st.

  • Out - Gene Chizik
  • In - ?
Auburn really did Iowa St. a favor. Not only do they get rid of an under producing coach, but they don't have to pay him any money. Look for a coordinator from another Big XII team to take this job. Kevin Wilson, maybe?

8. Kansas St.

  • Out - Ron Prince
  • In - Bill Snyder
I believe Prince should have been given at least one more year at K-State. However, Snyder did build this program into a national power way back when. He might be too old to do the same again. I guess we'll find out.

9. Miami(OH)

  • Out - Shane Montgomery
  • In - ?
I don't really know who the Redhawks will target for this job. Perhaps a 1-aa coach or even a Big Eleven assistant. Whoever they tabbed, he's got his work cut out for him.

10. Mississippi St.

  • Out - Sylvester Croom
  • In - Dan Mullen
I wish Dan Mullen nothing but the best in Starkville. However, I must say he really screwed us with the timing of this announcement. Damn him and Mississippi St.!

11. New Mexico

  • Out - Rocky Long
  • In - Mike Locksley
Locksley might be one of the better game planners in the nation right now. New Mexico does have a lot of talent on the offensive side of the ball. So this seems like a good fit.

12. New Mexico St.

  • Out - Hal Mumme
  • In - ?
The Aggies are going to be awful next season. Both Chris Jackson and Chase Holbrook will be gone. I feel sorry for whoever gets this job. It may be the worst job available this season.

13. Purdue

  • Out - Joe Tiller
  • In - Danny Hope
Hope is replacing a legend at Purdue. Fortunately this decision was made at the beginning of the offseason. That should relieve a little bit of the pressure. Just a little.

14. San Diego St.

  • Out - Chuck Long
  • In - Brady Hoke
The Aztecs were quite possibly the worst team in division 1 football this season. Kudos to them for going out and getting one of the hottest coaching prospects this off season in Brady Hoke. Hoke should find the weather and scenery much more to his liking in San Diego.

15. Syracuse

  • Out - Greg Robinson
  • In - Doug Marrone
This is a switch that should have been made last season in my opinion. I think the Orange whiffed on Robinson's replacement though. Turner Gill or Skip Holtz would have been better options than Marrone.

16. Tennessee

  • Out - Phil Fulmer
  • In - Lane Kiffin
Is it just me, or did the SEC coaching ranks get a lot worse this offseason?

17. Toledo

  • Out - Tom Amstutz
  • In - Tim Beckman
Beckman put up some pretty impressive numbers for Oklahoma St. over the past few seasons. At least he's taking over a team that managed to beat Michigan in the Big House last season.

18. Utah St.
  • Out - Brent Guy
  • In - Gary Andersen
Andersen remains in the same state as he leaves the Utes to take over a horrible Utah St. football program. Andersen may very well be the guy that can finally turn things around for the Aggies.

19.Washington

  • Out - Tyrone Willingham
  • In - Steve Sarkisian
I think the Trojans' defensive coordinator would be a better coaching candidate than Sarkisian. However, this is a good move for Sarkisian. He's taking over a Washington football team with little expectations, that I believe will be a lot better next season.

20. Wyoming

  • Out - Joe Glenn
  • In - Dave Christensen
Christensen is another top flight Big XII coordinator leaving to take on a head coaching challenge. The Cowboys were competitive towards the end of the season, including beating Tennessee in Knoxville. However, word was getting around that Glenn wasn't even recruiting anymore. That's a big no-no in college football.

Upset Alerts:

Colorado over Nebraska - The Buffs need this win to become bowl eligible. I think Coach Hawkins gets them fired up enough to win it.

North Carolina St. over Miami(FL) - Just like last season, Tom O'Brien has the Wolfpack playing like ACC champs at the end of the year. If he can just find a way to have his team play like that all season long, he may have something special.

Tennessee over Kentucky - The Wildcats may be running into a buzz saw on this one. I don't see the Vol senior class letting Coach Fulmer go out without a win.

Oklahoma St. over Oklahoma - It's Bedlam! Anything can happen.....

Who's the next one out?

The coaching carousel has already begun thanks to the firing of Tommy Bowden from Clemson. The latest rumor has Lane and Monte Kiffin being brought in to right that crazy ship.

While I feel Bowden deserved to get the axe, there are still several other coaches out there that should soon find their way out the door. In fact, I'm gonna do a blog about that right now.

I know Pat Forde has already done something like this, but my shit is way cooler than his. Also, I know what I'm talking about. Most of the time.

Here are a few ass bags that I feel should be thrown from the coaching carousel in the near future.

1. Greg Robinson - Syracuse

Record at 'Cuse - 8-33
4th year

I will officially boycott life if Greg Robinson is the head coach at Syracuse next season. Frankly, I'm surprised he has made it this far. If there were to be any more mid-season firings, Robinson is the most likely candidate. Syracuse not only sucks on the field, but they are getting out recruited out of their own backyard by Penn St., Rutgers, Pittsburgh and even Bucknell. This travesty has gone too far. It's time for the Syracuse administration to fix their errors.
Possible replacement - Steve Addazio, Florida Tight Ends Coach

2. Brent Guy - Utah St.

Record with the Aggies - 7-34
4th year

I know that no one really cares about Utah St. Even in their own state they are hardly mentioned. A little bit of winning could change that. Unfortunately for Utah St., there will be no winning as long as Brent Guy is the head coach. I'm not exactly blaming Guy entirely. Really, it will take an amazing, ungodly coach to turn things around here. The Aggies might just hold on to Guy because they'll have some trouble finding someone willing to replace him.

Possible replacement - Bobby Hauck - Montana Head Coach

3. Tyrone Willingham - Washington

Record at U-Dub - 11-30
4th year

Unfortunately for coach Ty, it's pretty much inevitable that he's gone after this year. I wonder if things would have been different for him if that sorry ass excuse for a ref would not have made that ridiculous unsportsmanlike call on Jake Locker against BYU. Who knows. Knowing the Huskies' luck, BYU probably would have just won in overtime anyway.
Possible replacement - Gary Pinkel - Missouri Head Coach

4. Phillip Fulmer - Tennessee

Record with the Vols - 149-49
17th year

Don't let that record fool you. Fulmer is leading the Vols straight down the tubes. The call for Fulmer's job has never been louder in Knoxville. The man is strictly getting by on his past right now. The Vols actually find themselves in a similar situation to Clemson, they will be firing a coach that just received a contract extension before the season started. The growing off the field trouble doesn't help Phil either.
Possible replacement - David Cutcliffe - Duke Head Coach

5. Chuck Long - San Diego St.

Record at SDSU - 8-22
3rd year

The loss to Cal Poly put the final nail in Chuck Long's coaching career coffin. San Diego St. was once a very respectable non-BCS team. Now they are a laughing stock almost on par with Idaho. (Which is pretty bad.) I really don't see why a coach can't be successful at a school like San Diego St. There's great weather, women and a decent football tradition.
Possible replacement - David Bailiff - Rice Head Coach

6. Joe Glenn - Wyoming

Record at Wyoming - 28-38
6th year

I have no idea what's going on at Wyoming. All I know is that the Cowboys are severely falling behind the vastly improved Mountain West pack. Glenn is a coaching legend who just seems to have finally worn on his players, who are no longer responding to him. To make matters worse, it's been reported that Glenn is refusing to send his assistant coaches out on recruiting visits during bye weeks. Ouch.
Possible Replacement - Tyrone Willingham - Possible Former Washington Head Coach

7. Kirk Ferentz - Iowa

Record at Iowa - 65-50
10th year

The most overpaid coach in America might finally be shown the door after this season. I would almost expect Ferentz to be ousted if the Hawkeyes were to miss a bowl game once again. Man I'm actually glad Florida chose the Zooker over Ferentz. I cant believe this guy was even in the running for some NFL head coaching vacancies. As long as Ferentz is at Iowa, the Hawkeyes will never compete for another Big Eleven title.
Possible Replacement - Brian Kelly - Cincinnati Head Coach.

8. Dave Wannstedt - Pittsburgh

Record at Pitt - 20-20
4th year

We all know Wannstedt is one hell of a recruiter. Unfortunately for Pitt, he may be the worst game day coach in all of division 1 football. The upset win over South Florida quited some of Wannstedt's critics for the moment. I'm sure a loss to Navy this week will get them all riled up once again.
Possible replacement - Skip Holtz - East Carolina Head Coach

9. Bob Toledo - Tulane

Record in Nawlins - 6-12
2nd year

I usually like to give a coach 3 years before I consider him to be on the hot seat. I'm gonna have to waive that provision for Mr. Toledo. I thought this was a bad hire for the Pelicans and I complained about it from the very beginning. I think Tulane needs to go back to the days of a wide open offense and absolutely no defense. It seemed to work better than what they have now. I know Hurricane Katrina set this program back a bit, but with the right coach, they can get right back on track.
Possible replacement - Gary Crowton - LSU Quarterbacks Coach

10. Shane Montgomery - Miami(OH)
Record at the OTHER Miami - 16-26
4th year

Back in the day, the RedHawks used to be the team to beat in the MAC. You couldn't envision a MAC championship game or a Motor City Bowl without Miami(OH) there. Now, MAC opponents circle their date with Miami as a guaranteed victory. Some schools are even scheduling Miami for their homecoming game. I like Montgomery. He seems like a nice guy. But perhaps it's time for the program to look for a new direction. Miami used to be the 5th best team in the Big Eleven. Now they're probably only the 8th best team in that conference.
Possible replacement - Chuck Martin - Grand Valley St. Head Coach
Other possible future Burger King employees:
  • Ralph Friedgen - Maryland
  • Al Groh - Virginia
  • Gene Chizik - Iowa St.
  • Steve Kragthorpe - Louisville
  • Tommy West - Memphis
  • Mike Price - UTEP
  • Rocky Long - New Mexico
  • Ricky Bustle - UL-Lafayette
  • Pat Hill - Fresno St.

Weekly Picks

Last Week - 36-18

Overall - 321-72

Man, what a horrible performance last week. I feel like I should apologize for how shitty I was at prognosticating the games. If I were the head coach at Clemson, I would have been fired by now. Then again, if I were the head coach at Tennessee, I might have gotten a raise.

I would also like to point out that I was 0-4 on my upset picks last week. I would just like to say, Fuck Cinderella! What a bitch.....

Here's my guaranteed awesome picks:

Florida St. @ NC State
BYU @ TCU
Hawaii @ Boise St.

Upset Alert:

Rutgers over Connecticut - I still think Rutgers has the potential to be a decent football team. With a big win over the Huskies, Rutgers could get it's season back on track.

Georgia Tech over Clemson - This is only an upset in the talent department. The Tigers are falling apart as a football team, which means Georgia Tech should win this one.

Navy over Pittsburgh - The Midshipmen are a solid football team that I think Pitt will overlook. Plus, Dave Wannstedt is still the head coach at Pittsburgh.

Mississippi St. over Tennessee - The Bulldogs just upset the best team in the state of Tennessee. Now they get a chance to do the same against the worst team in the state of Tennessee.

Missouri over Texas - I originally picked Texas in this one. After going back and forth I finally settled on Mizzou to take the upset. This is probably the upset pick that I am the least sure about.

Rocky Toppled.

Man isn't that a clever ass title?

The Gators dominated the Vols today. The best part about the Gators' 30-6 victory was the fact that the UT band didn't have enough reasons to ravage our ear canals with Rocky Top.

Here's a look at the stats.

Florida

Florida Passing
Tim Tebow 8/15 96 yards 2 tds

Florida Rushing
Emmanuel Moody 9 55 yds
Chris Rainey 9 37 yds
Percy Harvin 6 31 yds
Tim Tebow 12 26 yds

Florida Receiving
Percy Harvin 2 recs 49 yds 1 td
Louis Murphy 2 recs 18 yds
Aaron Hernandez 2 recs 15 yds 1 td
Kestahn Moore 1 rec 9 yds
Riley Cooper 1 rec 5 yds

Florida Interceptions
Jannoris Jenkins 1 int

Florida Kick Returns
Brandon James 1 52 yds
Tate Casey 1 4 yds

Florida Punt Returns
Brandon James 2 92 yds 1 td

Florida Kicking
Jonathan Phillips 3/3 40 long

Florida Punting
Chas Henry 1 57 yds

Tennessee

Tennessee Passing
Garbage

Tennessee Rushing
Pathetic

Tennessee Receiving
Non-Existent

Tennessee Defense and Special Teams
Shit.

Player of the Game

Brandon James - Kick Returner, Punt Returner, Bad Ass

James' punt return for a touchdown may have been one of the best returns I've seen in a while. If James' punt return for a touchdown against the Vols his freshmen season wasn't called back, this would have been the third straight year the diminutive James would have torched UT.

Notes:

I think Urban Meyer may have read my previous blog on Emmanuel Moody. The Gators FINALLY gave Moody the ball. I must say Manny didn't disappoint. He showed the skill set that made him PAC-10 freshman of the year 2 years ago. I hope this is a sign of things to come.

Tebow was solid once again. Although he hasn't had the staggering numbers this season, he is playing very good football. Timmy has yet to throw an interception this season, and his decision making only seems to be getting better.

Our defense was phenomenal this game. The biggest question mark on this team is starting to prove themselves. Penalties were still an issue, although some could have easily went the other way. I can live with the penalties, as long as they aren't too costly.

All in all, it was a good win for the Gators. Our fourth straight vs. the Vols. I'm just glad we don't have to hear Tebow sing Rocky Top.
